What Happens in a failed Hour Record attempt

The Hour Record in cycling is as simple and iconic as it is brutal: ride as far as possible in one hour on a velodrome. Alone. No place to hide. Constantly on the knife edge of being at the limit and blowing up.

We were lucky enough to capture a dress rehearsal simulation with any instrument we could get our hands on for an hour record attempt and have now published it in the European Journal of Sport Science.

This case-study gives a unique insight to the difference when the rider who was on track to achieving their target distance in comparison to when they blew up and were off the desired pace (task-failure!).
